AFTERCARE
Thank you for trusting my work.
Following these instructions correctly is essential for healthy healing, preserving details, and ensuring the long-term quality of your tattoo.
This protocol applies to tattoos protected with Second Skin
(Saniderm, Derm Shield, or Recovery).
BANDAGE (SECOND SKIN)
The bandage is applied at the end of the session and is intended to protect the tattoo during the early stages of healing.
It is normal for plasma, ink, and fluid to accumulate under the film.
Do not puncture, cut, or attempt to drain the bandage.
BANDAGE WEAR TIME
There is no single fixed timeframe that applies to every case.
How long the bandage should remain in place depends on adhesion, fluid buildup, comfort, and skin response.
General guideline
Keep the bandage on for up to 24 hours initially
Remove the bandage before 24 hours if:
large fluid bubbles develop
there are holes or tears
the edges begin to lift
air or water enters
the bandage loses its seal
After 24 hours
After the first 24 hours, the bandage may be:
removed permanently,
reapplied, or
kept on for additional days,
depending on the condition of the bandage and the instructions given at the end of your session.
The bandage may remain on for up to an additional 3 days if:
it is completely dry inside
it remains fully sealed
there are no fluid bubbles
there is no pain, burning, or discomfort
If any changes occur, the bandage should be removed.
BANDAGE REMOVAL
Remove the bandage preferably during a shower
Use lukewarm water
Pull the bandage slowly and parallel to the skin
Never pull upward or remove abruptly
WASHING
After removing the bandage:
Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water
Use a gentle, fragrance-free, dye-free soap
Wash using your hands only
Do not use sponges, loofahs, or brushes
Dry with a clean paper towel, gently pressing
(do not rub or drag the towel over the skin)
Washing can be done 1 to 2 times per day.
MOISTURIZING DURING HEALING
After each wash:
Use a high-quality, fragrance-free moisturizer
Apply thin layers, without excess
Moisturize 2 to 3 times per day, depending on skin dryness
Excess product can interfere with proper healing.
GYM AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Physical activity requires caution during healing.
Avoid the gym and intense workouts for the first 3 to 5 days
Excessive sweating, friction, and contact with surfaces can compromise healing
After this period, light activity may be resumed provided that:
the tattoo is closed
there is no pain, burning, or discharge
there is no direct friction on the tattooed area
Avoid until fully healed:
exercises that cause direct friction
tight clothing over the tattoo
intense workouts or prolonged cardio
Always clean the tattoo after any physical activity.
WHAT TO AVOID DURING HEALING
Do not scratch or pick at peeling skin
Do not reapply plastic once removed
Avoid pools, oceans, lakes, and bathtubs
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and excessive heat
Avoid direct sun exposure
Avoid tight clothing and constant friction
Avoid these for 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the tattooed area and skin response.
WHAT IS NORMAL
Mild redness during the first days
Mild swelling
Peeling
Mild itching during healing
WARNING SIGNS
Seek medical attention and contact me if you experience:
intense or worsening pain
yellow or green discharge
persistent foul odor
fever
POST-HEALING CARE
Even after the tattoo is fully healed, it is recommended to keep the skin moisturized regularly.
Use a fragrance-free moisturizer as needed
Hydration helps maintain healthy, even skin, contributing to the long-term appearance of the tattoo
Whenever the tattoo is exposed to the sun, apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.
Sun protection is one of the most important factors in preserving contrast and definition over time.
